A Big Room
Adjectives
The Vibe
Clothes, interior, mood
You are choosing clothes, looking at a room, scrolling through photos of friends, and suddenly plain nouns are no longer enough. You need words like mare, mic, frumos, nou, interesant. In `A1_U10`, adjectives start making speech truly descriptive: not just `o carte`, but `o carte interesantă`; not just `un scaun`, but `un scaun nou`.
By the end of this unit you can
- use core adjectives to describe people and objects
- notice adjective agreement with gender and number
- build short descriptions of clothes, rooms, and photos
- recognize the most common adjective patterns
How the adjective adjusts
At A1, you do not need every adjective class at once. It is enough to notice a few frequent patterns and see that adjectives usually agree with the noun.
| Pattern | Example | Idea |
|---|---|---|
| masc. sg. | un scaun nou | masculine / singular |
| fem. sg. | o carte nouă | feminine / singular |
| masc. pl. | doi oameni noi | plural |
| fem. pl. | două cărți noi | plural |
| invariable-like feel | un laptop mare / o carte mare | some adjectives look more stable |
Grammar Hack
Store `un scaun nou` and `o carte nouă`, not just `nou` in isolation.
Words like `mare` and `mic` become useful very quickly in simple description.
Adjectives stick better when tied to clothes, furniture, people, and rooms.
At this stage, 10-15 strong adjectives matter more than the whole system.
The learner should first feel that the description becomes richer, then start noticing the agreement pattern.
Where adjectives are needed right away
clothes and appearance
Describing clothes and people is one of the most natural ways to introduce adjectives.

room, furniture, photos
Interiors and objects make adjectives visible and easy to test.
- o cameră mare
- un scaun mic
- o fotografie frumoasă
Unit adjectives and words
- mare
- mic

Nice to Know: adjectives make beginner speech sound human
The moment a learner starts adding `mare`, `mic`, `nou`, and `frumos`, speech stops sounding like a bare noun list. It is one of the fastest ways to make A1 feel alive.
Mini dialogue: outfit and room
Notice: adjectives agree with the noun in gender and number. Maya says 'o cameră mare' (feminine), 'un scaun mic' (masculine), and 'fotografii frumoase' (plural).
