Acesta sau celălalt?
Demonstrative pronouns and adjectives for choice, contrast, and clarity
The Vibe
I want this ticket, not that train but this route; we have the same problem but a different option
`B1_U06` makes speech more precise. You can now name not just an object, but which one exactly, which other one, and which same one. This is an important layer of clear, natural spoken navigation.
By the end of this unit you can
- point precisely to an object, person, or option
- distinguish `this`, `that`, `the other one`, and `the same one` in natural speech
- talk about two options without heavy noun repetition
- clarify choice, contrast, and reference in dialogue
Where the topic becomes useful immediately
This topic is needed in any scene of choice and clarification: this ticket or the other one, this train or that one, the same person or a different option.
| Function | Form | Example |
|---|---|---|
| этот | acest / această | Acest tren pleacă acum. |
| тот | acel / acea | Acel restaurant e mai departe. |
| вот этот | acesta / aceasta | Acesta este biletul meu. |
| другой | celălalt / cealaltă | Îl vreau pe celălalt. |
| тот же самый | același / aceeași | Avem aceeași problemă. |
Grammar Hack
The topic comes alive not in the table but at the moment of choosing: this or that, the other one or the same one.
Imagine two tickets, two people, two routes, two solutions. The forms settle faster that way.
Without these forms, speech often becomes vague and repetitive.
The topic works especially well next to `mai bun`, `mai rapid`, `mai ieftin`.
The learner starts sounding more precise and more confident when they can point to a referent quickly.
How it works in contrast
this vs that
The form helps you separate two options quickly.
- Acest drum e mai scurt.
- Acel drum e mai liniștit.
- Acesta este trenul nostru.
the other one vs the same one
This is already the language of comparison and precise choice.
- Îl vreau pe celălalt.
- Avem aceeași problemă.
- Nu e aceeași persoană.

Nice to Know
This is one of the units that makes B1 noticeably more precise. Speech starts handling reference better: which person exactly, which object exactly, which option exactly.
The Real Deal
- ● sorting: this / that / the other / the same
- ● matching: сцена и выбор указательной формы
- ● fill-in: exact reference in context
- ● correction: vague dialogue becomes precise
- ● speaking: a short scene choosing between two options
