I Work, You Study
Present Tense of First and Second Conjugation Verbs
The Vibe
Morning, planner, daily actions
You look at a planner and start building your day step by step: lucrez, studiez, dansez, desenez, creez. Instead of isolated verbs, you now need working present-tense forms that live inside routine. This unit is where the present tense starts sounding like a schedule, a habit, and a normal day.
By the end of this unit you can
- conjugate core first- and second-conjugation verbs in the present tense
- talk about routine and habits
- recognize common `-ez` forms in high-frequency verbs
- build a short day planner in Romanian
Present tense: the first working patterns
At this stage, you do not need every Romanian verb. What matters is noticing a few high-frequency patterns and repeating them inside real sentences.
| Infinitive | Core pattern | Example |
|---|---|---|
| a lucra | lucrez, lucrezi, lucrează | I work at home. |
| a studia | studiez, studiezi, studiază | You study Romanian. |
| a desena | desenez, desenezi, desenează | She draws well. |
| a dansa | dansez, dansezi, dansează | We dance in the evening. |
| a crea | creezi / creează | He creates a project. |
| a vedea | văd, vezi, vede | I see the café. |
| a plăcea | place, plac | I like coffee. |
Grammar Hack
Forms like `lucrez`, `studiez`, `dansez`, and `desenez` are high-value patterns worth storing as chunks.
Do not store `lucrez` alone; store `eu lucrez`, `tu lucrezi`.
Verbs stick better inside a day-planner context: morning, afternoon, evening.
For second conjugation, keep `văd`, `vezi`, `vede` close together.
It is better to really control 6-8 common verbs than to half-know 20.
How the present tense lives inside routine
what you usually do
At A1, the present tense is mainly useful for habits and repeated daily actions.
- Eu lucrez dimineața.
- Tu studiezi seara.
- Noi dansăm vineri.
what is happening in the scene right now
The same forms also work for simple ongoing scene meaning: you write, work, watch, create.
- Ea desenează acum.
- El vede mesajul.
- Eu creez o listă.
Unit verbs and words
- a lucra
- a studia
- a dansa
- a desena
- a crea

- acasă
- listă
Ready-made phrases
- Eu lucrez acasă.
- Tu studiezi româna.
- Ea desenează bine.
- Noi dansăm seara.
- El vede mesajul.
Nice to Know: `-ez` quickly becomes recognizable
Forms in `-ez` start sounding 'very Romanian' quite early. For A1, this is a useful anchor: once the learner hears `lucrez` or `studiez`, the present-tense pattern becomes easier to notice.
Mini dialogue: the morning day
Notice: pronouns like `eu` and `noi` change the verb form. This is typical routine talk — painting the day through verbs.
