Irony scale: from soft criticism to sarcasm

Not every indirect phrase is ironic. You need evidence: context, tone, mismatch, and form.

Subtext Hack

Mismatch

Words are too positive for a bad situation: this signals irony.

Ellipsis

Ellipsis often leaves an unstated judgment: `Interesant...`.

Understatement

`Nu e ideal` can mean `this is a serious problem`.

Cultural allusion

`Am mai văzut filmul ăsta` = we have seen this before, usually ending badly.
