Supinul for tasks, purpose, and action evaluation

I have many things today: de trimis, de verificat, de terminat

`B2_U05` makes speech more compact. Instead of long phrases, you learn to build work and everyday constructions: what needs doing, what an object is for, how easy or difficult an action is.

By the end of this unit you can

  • recognize supinul after `de`, `pentru`, `la`
  • make task-list phrases with `am de + supin`
  • evaluate actions: `e ușor/greu de...`
  • understand object purpose: `mașină de spălat`, `apă de băut`
  • reformulate long constructions into compact B2 lines

Supinul as task grammar

Do not think of supin as a rare form. In real texts it is often a compact way to express task, purpose, and action evaluation.

Grammar Hack

`am de făcut` = task on me

It sounds like an item on a to-do list: `Am de terminat raportul`.

`e greu de...` = action evaluation

The focus is not on the person, but on how difficult/easy the action is.

`de` often shows purpose

`mașină de spălat`, `apă de băut`, `carte de citit`.

`pentru` sounds workflow-like

`documente pentru semnat`, `text pentru tradus` is typical for tasks and office language.

Supin compresses a phrase

`un text pe care trebuie să-l citesc` -> `un text de citit`.

Nice to Know

In real Romanian notes, short items without a full verb are common: `de plătit`, `de sunat`, `de verificat`. This is normal for to-do lists, but in full writing it is better to expand some items into full sentences.
